Digital Leadership and Community Engagement Strategies with a Focus on Underserved Populations

In supporting digital leadership, information technology and business leaders collaborate in formulating strategies to achieve an organizational vision that leverages advanced technologies to stay competitive. Some of these strategies are built upon innovative services to create and fulfill value by engaging customers as they undertake their purchase journey. Digital leadership in healthcare (hospitals, primary care clinics, and public health agencies) similarly needs to transform their population health strategies such as care coordination or wellness promotion by applying new ideas, services, and technologies to engage patients and other healthcare clients as they undergo their care journey. Understanding and supporting the client-care journey, especially when such a journey is influenced by social and cultural determinants leading to health inequities, calls for population health transformation to engage a community of clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.

Our work in the last few years has been to understand the community engagement strategies used by healthcare systems as well as intermediate organizations as they design services to address gaps in the client-care journey of underserved populations and work to improve the efficacy of these community strategies.
